Pvt Alfred Wilson of company F, 27th Regt Indiana volunteers died at the Douglas Hospital in this city on Thursday last; and a few moments before he died, while sending affectionate messages to his widowed mother and friends, said: “Chaplain, I wish to leave it as my dying testimony that I am glad that I entered the service of my county, although it has cost me my life. My country!  It is right! With such sentiment animating our brave soldiers the South can never expect to gain recognition as a nation – Washington Chronicle
